Just started 3d printing with a Ender 3. All worked well straight out of the box so to speak. Printed a couple of things from thingiverse to test. Now want to play with some of my own designs.
Had a quick play with FreeCAD and OpenSCAD which seem OK. I sort of quite like the OpenSCAD and building by coding but not sure about how complex designs I could do with it?

So what do you think is the best free cad package that is worth me investing my time in learning?

I'm pretty new to cad programs and wouldnt really know which to recommend but the online Tinkercad is very easy to use https://www.tinkercad.com/ you can also share your designs with other and work on them together  :beer2:

Thanks I will give it a go.

Will there be a 'like' button at some point?

Gaza07

Ive tried a few times to add a like button to this forum but the new smf simply doesnt like it, the next release of smf has the like button built in but is still in beta, I might look into running a copy of the beta at some point because I really miss the like button to  ~~

Well, currently after trying a few I'm not at all settled on any.

Firstly, bear in mind that a few years back I spent a lot of time building 3D models for Simulators. I have literally hundreds of models out there as Freeware.  I used a combination of software but mostly the (VERY expensive) 3dsMax (was 3d Studio).

Now to modern software and me.  And, I can't get on with any of them!

I first tried Blender, which is a real mess with such a painful GUI you might well struggle to find out how to even delete a complete model, let alone a part of one.

Currently I am messing around with Trimble, FreeCAD, Fusion360, SketchUp, jury is out, may be a while!!
HobbyKing Fabrikator II Mini, 100x100x100. (a re-badged Malyan) - Modded with magnetic Flex Bed.
Original Prusa i3 Mk3 (All Black).
Anycubic Photon S  (Resin/UV).

I remember 3d studio max, I used to use it at work for simulations but we can't talk about that  :whistling: :whistling:
I do quite like OpenSCAD but not really done enough to find limitations. I like the programming style as it is simple  ::)
